This week: ‘Doing Kava’ … or 'WHAT THE HELL IS KAVA?’

Well... per wikipedia:

The roots of the plant are used to produce a drink with sedative and anesthetic properties. Kava is consumed throughout the Pacific Ocean cultures of Polynesia, including Hawaii, Vanuatu, Melanesia and some parts of Micronesia. (See canoe plants.) Kava is sedating and is primarily consumed to relax without disrupting mental clarity. Its active ingredients are called kavalactones. A Cochrane Collaboration systematic review of its evidence concluded it was likely to be more effective than placebo at treating short-term social anxiety.^[2]

... that said, there is a new kava place in the neighborhood. No alcohol. Just kava and a lot of bamboo. I mean, A LOT of bamboo. Cue the first panel...

Neal Cassady is a Beat Icon and Mile High native... but I'll let the comic tell you about him if you are L7 on the details (oh yeah... I went there.) Even better... Check out the new documentary 'Neal Cassady: The Denver Years' (done by the incredible Heather Dalton... who also helped me with this strip...) which is premiering June 26th (next Thursday at 7PM!) at the SIE Film Center in scenic City Park-ish East Colfax. Be there for all the historic docu-drama hijinx. It's a 'real cool scene' as the kids all say... (wait, they don't say that anymore??)

Plus... My artwork is featured in the film!!!! In many places... and animated!!! SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION!!! It will be magical if you like that sort of thing. Be there or... well, you know the rest!
